Body of missing man found in creek
ROGUE RIVER — The body of an 83-year-old Wimer man missing since August was discovered Wednesday in Fielder Creek near Rogue River, sheriff's officials said.
Two Rogue River men found the body of Hugh Ellis inside his wrecked pickup that had plunged into the creek after leaving the road, Jackson County sheriff's officials said in a news release.
The men had found the pickup earlier this week and returned Wednesday to take the vehicle's battery when they noticed Ellis' body inside the cab, officials said.
Ellis left his sister's home on Rogue River Highway in August and did not make it back to his home in the 5400 block of Pleasant Creek Road in Wimer. His family phoned the Sheriff's Department, which initiated an unsuccessful search.
It appears the pickup left the road and crashed through a wire fence. It traveled through a grassy field and some wooded terrain before launching into the air and slamming into an embankment along the creek.
At the time Ellis disappeared, the area was choked with heavy foliage making it difficult to see the wreckage from the road.
