Thieves grab $37,000 in ATVs, snowmobiles

Thieves made off with more than $37,000 worth of all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles from a dealership on Crater Lake Avenue, Medford police said.

The theft of four quads, four snowmobiles and two trailers carrying some of the machines happened over the weekend and was reported to police Monday morning.

Employees of Rotax Performance Machines at 3811 Crater Lake Highway discovered that someone had cut the locks on gates to a fenced storage yard behind the business, which sells new and used snowmobiles and ATVs, and services the machines.

A flatbed trailer carrying two blue Bombardier Skidoo Summit snowmobiles, one black Summit and a white Yamaha snowmobile was taken.

A dark green 2006 Bombardier Outlander four-wheeler on a Featherlight aluminum trailer was taken, along with a camouflage 2007 Outlander, a black 2001 Bombardier four-wheeler with flames on the seat and aluminum wheels, and a 2005 Polaris Scrambler four-wheeler.

Police estimated the machines were worth at least $37,000 and some estimates at the shop ranged even higher.

All the machines belonged to customers and were at the shop for consignment sale, storage or repair, Medford police Lt. Tim Doney said. Investigators suspect the thieves had cased the business before making their move this weekend to snatch the gear.

Doney said police hope to track down the suspects and return the machines quickly so the rightful owners will still get time on the snow this winter.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call Detective Justin Ivens at 774-2234.
