Arrest made in burglary in Medford
MEDFORD — An interrupted burglary Thursday night led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Medford transient, police said.
A 59-year-old Medford man returned to his home in the 500 block of South Modoc Road to find a pile of his belongs in the middle of his living room floor.
Suspecting a burglary was in progress, the man phoned police, but not before seeing two men fleeing his home and disappear into a near-by neighborhood, police said.
Minutes later, a Medford police officer spotted Tyler Lopez walking in cemetery on Highland Drive near the skate park. The officer questioned Lopez and was able to determine he was a suspect in the burglary.
Officers established a perimeter around the victim's home and used police dog Basco to track down a wallet belonging to the victim that had been dropped in the cemetery.
Investigators have identified a second suspect and are in the process of attempting to locate him in the Medford area. Police declined to release details on the second suspect.
Lopez was charged with first-degree burglary and a probation violation from a previous cocaine charge. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Friday on $55,000 bail.
