OSP traffic stop nets 13 pounds of marijuana
ASHLAND — After stopping a 2009 Dodge Charger for speeding on Interstate 5 near Ashland Friday, Oregon State Police found 13 pounds of marijuana valued at about $35,000 hidden in the car.
A trooper spotted the muscle car heading north at about noon on Friday and stopped it around milepost 11, OSP reported. As the investigation continued, he called a Shady Cove police officer with a narcotics detection dog to assist. The officers found about 13 pounds of marijuana in the car.
Troopers arrested the 27-year-old driver, Raymond Edward Chance, of Longview, Wash., and his 29-year-old passenger, Kevin Dean Christensen, who also used the last name Christopherson, of Rainier, Wash. Both were lodged in the Jackson County Jail for unlawful distribution, manufacture and possession of marijuana.
Christensen's bail was set at $75,000 and he bailed out over the weekend, jail records show.
Chance, whose bail was initially set at $125,000, was arraigned on the charges in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday. His bail was reduced to $10,000 and he bailed out of jail.
