Bed fire — A minor fire Saturday in a condominium in Ashland served as a reminder to take caution when smoking. A cigarette a resident had been smoking in bed sparked the fire at about 2:45 p.m. in a condo in the 900 block of Mountain Meadows Circle. The fire was confined to the bed and caused just more than $1,000 worth of damage before Ashland firefighters extinguished it. About 780 people died in fires caused by smoking materials in 2006, the most recent statistics available from the National Fire Protection Association.
