Crash injures Medford woman
A Medford woman suspected of being under the influence of stimulants was critically injured when she drove her 2005 Acura into a concrete fixture along a ditch Thursday on Table Rock Road, officials said.
Shellie R. Davis, 40, of the 12000 block of Meadows Road, was driving north on Table Rock Road at about 9:50 a.m. when she veered off the roadway in the 5600 block near Timber Products trucking entrance, just south of Wilson Road. Her car hit a sign and smashed into the concrete box, trapping her inside, Medford police said.
The northbound lanes of Table Rock Road were closed while emergency crews worked. All lanes reopened at about 10:40 a.m. Thursday, and traffic cleared slowly.
Medford Fire Department and Jackson County Fire District No. 3 extricated Davis from her car. A Mercy Flights ambulance took her to Rogue Valley Medical Center, police said.
Police said Davis broke her right leg and had head injuries. Hospital officials said she was listed in critical condition.
Police called a drug recognition expert, who examined the woman and told officers he suspected she was under the influence of stimulants, said Medford police Lt. Tim Doney. Blood was drawn for toxicology testing, and an officer planned to cite her on a charge of driving under the influence when she recovered, he said.
One of the officers who responded to the crash recognized the Acura as the suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run crash reported Monday. In that crash, the car struck a speed limit sign on Crater Lake Avenue near Jackson Street and drove away. Doney said the investigating officer doesn't know yet who was driving the car at that time.
Anyone who witnessed either crash or has other information about Davis' driving is asked to call officer Greg Nichols at 618-1833.
