Girls, 11 and 13, charged with arson
An 11-year-old and a 13-year-old have been charged with second-degree arson for starting a fire Sunday in a utility trailer behind McLoughlin Middle School in Medford, according to police.
Medford firefighters were dispatched to the fire about 7 p.m. Sunday behind the middle school at 320 W. Second St. The fire, which caused about $750 in damage to the trailer, was extinguished without incident, said Medford police Lt. Tim Doney.
Fire inspectors and police determined the blaze was arson, Doney said.
Witnesses, including kids playing in the area, identified an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl as suspects, he said. They were cited and released to their parents, he said.
Their cases have been referred to the Jackson County Juvenile Department.
