Medford man missing a month found dead
A Medford man reported missing last month was found dead in a field near a Dairy Queen in west Medford Monday evening.
Joseph Del Mundo, 37, was reported missing Aug. 12 by his sister in Maryland, and Medford police asked the public for help finding him last week after investigators exhausted all leads on where he might be or who he might be with.
Mundo had last been seen about 11 p.m. on July 30, walking from the home he shared with several roommates in the 600 block of South Columbus Avenue. He left behind his car and all his personal belongings, but police were initially uncertain about whether he might be voluntarily absent.
Children playing in a field just north of the Dairy Queen at 1960 W. Main St. discovered Mundo's body at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Medford police and Jackson County Sheriff's Department's deputy medical examiner identified Mundo and determined that he likely had committed suicide some time ago, authorities said.
