Man reportedly falls off Lower Table Rock
Emergency crews scrambled Saturday night to a report of a man who fell off Lower Table Rock.
Few details were available as search and rescue crews were just arriving at the scene as the Mail Tribune went to press.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said there was a good possibility a man fell off the south side of Lower Table Rock while waking a trail with some friends.
"We are gathering information as we speak," Winters said. "The dark conditions will make it difficult to maneuver in the area."
A helicopter equipped with night vision had been dispatched to the area to help with the search.
"We will probably be out there throughout the night and into the morning hours," Winters said. "This is something you have to take seriously."
Winters said the south end of Lower Table Rock is a popular hiking area and the agency has responded to a number of falls there over the years.
"It's definitely dangerous to be up there after dark," Winters said.
The sheriff said the reported victim's name may be made available today.
"This thing is in the early stages, so we won't know until we've been there for a while and spoken to everyone involved," Winters said.Meanwhile, rescue crews late Saturday were called to Hyatt Lake to a report of a missing kayaker.
Winters did not have any details on that rescue mission. More information may be available today, Winters said.
"It's going to be a busy night," Winters said.
