Inmate dies after seizure
A Jackson County Jail inmate suffered an apparent seizure early Saturday in his cell and later died at a Medford hospital, jail officials said Monday.
Lake Aaron Moore, 31, of Medford, who had a history of burglary and robbery charges, was in the jail for violating the conditions of his parole, jail Capt. Terry Wilson said.
Moore apparently had eaten breakfast and returned to his cell around 6:45 a.m. when he began to have a seizure, Wilson said. His cellmate alerted deputies, who began cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts that were later taken over by jail medical staff, Wilson said.
Emergency medical technicians arrived and took Moore to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Wilson said.
Moore's death was the first at the Medford jail since 1996, when an inmate lodged on probation violation suffered alcohol withdrawals and other medical problems before developing a blood clot in his brain and dying at a Medford hospital, records show.
The family of that inmate, Jeffrey Stuart Anderson, won a $3.1 million judgment against the county in a wrongful death case. The county and the family settled in 2001 for $1.8 million, records show.
