Fire calls

Jackson County Fire District No. 3 crews Wednesday night responded to a house fire in the 500 block of North Sixth Avenue in Gold Hill.

When they arrived at around 6:15 p.m., a vacant home was engulfed in flames. The house sustained major damage before crews doused the flames.

It was the second time on Wednesday that District 3 crews were dispatched to the house. The first call came earlier in the afternoon. The fire was extinguished before the crews arrived on scene, said District 3 Captain Dave Slawson.

Fire officials suspect the house was intentionally burned and are continuing their investigation.

"The incident has neighbors in the area concerned," Slawson said.

No one was living in the house at the time of the fire.
