Vandal breaks into 10 soda machines in two-day spree
A vandal smashed 10 soda vending machines early this week, apparently in pursuit of small amounts of cash, Medford police said.
The damage to all 10 machines is estimated to be in excess of $10,000, although only $30 to $40 was snatched from each machine, police said.
The string of break-ins happened overnight on Sunday into early Monday and again on Monday into Tuesday, investigators said. The targeted machines were outdoors at businesses on Court Street, McAndrews and Biddle roads. Many were Pepsi vending machines, police said.
Video surveillance from the Yellow Submarine Car Wash on Court Street provided clear images of the suspect, which police released on Thursday.
The suspect is a white man between 18 and 25, around 5 feet 9 inches tall who appears to weigh between 150 and 170 pounds. He wore a red hooded sweatshirt under a gray sweatshirt, two-tone sweat pants that were dark on the front and light on the back, and dark Vans-style shoes with white trim. He was seen riding a longboard-style skateboard on some video that police collected.
Anyone with information on these cases is asked to contact Detective Katie Ivens at 774-2266.
