Felony arrests

  • Kidnapping — John Earl McGowan Jr., 34, of an unknown address. Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrested McGowan early Sunday on charges of second-degree kidnapping, coercion and contempt of court for violating a restraining order. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on more than $1 million bail.
  • Kidnapping, vehicle theft — Shawn Morton Robbins, 34, of an unknown address. Ashland police arrested Robbins Sunday on charges of second-degree kidnapping, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude in a vehicle, methamphetamine possession and a parole violation. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail.
  • Driving while suspended — John Giovanni Matarese, 40, of the 1400 block of Green Park Drive, Central Point. Central Point police arrested Matarese Sunday on charges of two counts of felony driving while suspended and two counts of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $14,000 bail.

Fire calls

Motor home fire — Rogue River firefighters responded at 8:55 p.m. Sunday to a motor home and outbuilding fire in the 9000 block of West Evans Creek Road. The motor home and outbuilding were unoccupied. No other details were available late Sunday.
