Talent man charged with drug possession

A Talent man with a medical marijuana card was arrested by Salem police Tuesday when detectives interrupted a suspected drug deal.

Detectives say they saw Zane Bennett, 29, of Talent, Josh Kampstra, 32, of Salem, and Christopher Vela, 24, of Salem, apparently attempting to sell marijuana in a parking lot near the intersection of Commercial and Madrona streets in Salem at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers found about 51/2; pounds of marijuana, more than 3 ounces of hashish and a small amount of heroin in the car the men were in. Other drug paraphernalia was found, investigators said in a news release.

Vela was charged with delivery and possession of marijuana and possession of heroin in Tuesday's case.

Bennett was charged with delivery and possession of marijuana and possession of hashish. Bennett holds a medical marijuana card, but he violated program guidelines by selling marijuana to a person outside the program and possessing other illegal drugs, police said. Kampstra was charged with delivery and pot possession.
