82-year-old foils assault, shoots suspect in foot
CAVE JUNCTION — An 82-year-old man who was assaulted Monday afternoon was able to fend off his attacker after shooting him in the foot during the attack at his home, police said.
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office said the 82-year-old victim shot David Roberson, 65, during an attempted assault at the man's home along the 2200 block of Dick George Road in Cave Junction.
Roberson lives nearby at 1440 Dick George Road.
He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Josephine County Jail on attempted kidnapping, fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest charges.
Additional details about the assault were not available.
The relationship between both individuals is still under investigation.
Police said Roberson's attempted assault was thwarted when the victim pulled a gun he had on him and shot Roberson in the foot.
Roberson fled in his truck. He was later arrested when sheriff's deputies saw him driving through downtown Cave Junction.
They pursued him to Kerby Main Line Road and arrested him. Authorities took him to Three Rivers Community Hospital to have his gunshot wound treated.
The man and his 71-year-old spouse both suffered facial injuries during the attack.
The man also suffered a knee injury. Both refused medical treatment.
