Did you recently receive an email that looks like it came from the Oregon Attorney General's Office with "Administrative Office" in the subject line?

Don't open it. The email is a scam and the targets are your wallet and computer, officials say.

It claims the recipient is delinquent on a payday loan and that a payment must be made to avoid legal consequences. There is a link or attachment for information on how to proceed. There is an Oregon Department of Justice seal, along with references to state and federal consumer protection laws.

The office of Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum says it's bogus and to hit delete.

"Neither the Attorney General, nor the Oregon Department of Justice, would ever send you an email like this," a statement in a news release from Rosenblum reads. "The only emails you will receive from me are about scams or other matters impacting the public and you have to sign up at my website to receive those. I would also never ask you to make a payment to avoid a legal consequence."

Clicking on the links could also install malware on your computer. Anyone who thinks they have received the scam email should ignore it and contact the DOJ at 1-877-877-9392 or online at www.oregonconsumer.gov.
