Police investigate disappearance of a 15-year-old Rogue River girl
The suspicious disappearance of a 15-year-old Rogue River girl from her bedroom has police searching for answers.
Desarae K. Spencer-Piland was last seen sleeping in her bed and disappeared between 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, said Rogue River Police Department Chief Ken Lewis.
Lewis said Desarae's mother went to wake the girl up Thursday morning and she was nowhere to be found.
It is unknown whether she is in danger, Lewis said.
"All of her footwear was still there ... she left behind her new iPhone, which she has only had a few months and doesn't go anywhere without," Lewis said.
Lewis said the girl's bed sits "high," and that she slept just below a window, which had its screen taken out and was wide open when she was discovered to be missing.
"It would be possible for somebody to open that window, or open it farther and basically take somebody out from that bed," Lewis said.
At this point, the case is under investigation and not being ruled a kidnapping, he said.
"She is homeschooled and she is very much a stay-in-touch-with-parents kid. They always know where she is. ... There is absolutely nothing to indicate that she was going to run away."
Anyone with information about Desarae's location is asked to call the Rogue River Police Department at 541-582-4931 or Emergency Communications of the Southern Oregon dispatch center at 541-776-7206.
