Firefighting will close part of Lost Creek Lake over Labor Day weekend
Helicopters and airplanes fighting wildfires in the Sky Lakes Wilderness are dipping water from Lost Creek Lake, temporarily closing part of it to recreational use.
The northeastern branch of Lost Creek Lake from the marina to a half-mile upstream of Payton Bridge is closed to public access until 6 p.m. Monday, according a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
That portion of the lake will be used as a water supply by helicopters and airplanes fighting a series of wildfires burning in the Sky Lakes Wilderness, the release said.
The closure starts today, the release said.
During the closure, lake goers are asked to use only the portion of the lake between the marina and the dam, the release said.
"Limited access at Lost Creek Lake is to ensure the safety of not only the boats and public using the lake, but also the air resources and pilots," the release said.
