Josephine County officials warn of fake evacuation orders
The Josephine County Sheriff's Department reports that someone is falsely calling residents and telling them to evacuate.
Residents have called the county's Emergency Operations Center to report getting phone calls from someone claiming to be from the Josephine County Sheriff's Department advising them to evacuate.
The sheriff's department says updated evacuation orders requiring people to leave their homes would be delivered in person by uniformed deputies or search and rescue team members. Such orders aren't relayed by phone, officials said.
Residents in the Pickett Creek area, along Shan Creek, Limpy Creek and Taylor Creek roads, and on Riverbanks Road between Limpy Creek Road and Robertson Bridge have been told to prepare for possible evacuation. This is known as a Level I evacuation order asking people to be ready.
