Police investigating reports of shots fired in west Medford

Several west Medford residents told police Thursday night they heard anywhere between two and four shots in the vicinity of Black Bird Shopping Center, although investigators haven't found any evidence to support it yet.

At 8:38 p.m. near the area of Main Street and Western Avenue, witnesses reported hearing yelling between several people in three vehicles, followed by several gunshots. The altercation either took place in the Black Bird parking lot or on one of the adjacent streets, police said.

By the time police arrived, everyone involved had fled. There was no evidence of any injuries, such as blood on the ground, no holes in structures or other vehicles and no shell casings. There were also no reports of gunshot injuries or deaths at local hospitals.

"We may locate further evidence today," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said Friday.

Police conducted multiple interviews and believe they have identified two of the vehicles involved in the incident. They declined to release names and vehicle details, as no arrests had yet been made and other interviews had yet to be conducted. It's still not known what the alleged fight was about.

"We're just trying to muddle through all the witness statements at this point," Budreau said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Medford police at 541-770-4783.
