Fire contained to garage

Medford fire crews prevented an early-morning garage fire from spreading to the home today.

The fire was reported at 4:54 a.m. in the 2000 block of Temple Drive. The home's two occupants were awake when they saw smoke. They contacted 911 and escaped the home with their dog.

Medford Fire-Rescue responded with four engines and had the garage blaze under control in about five minutes. Battalion Chief Ken Goodson said there were no injuries. There was some moderate smoke damage and light fire damage in the garage, with smoke damage inside the home.

The fire's cause remains under investigation, but unattended candles could be the culprit, fire officials said.
