Two people die in weekend crash on Highway 140

A Saturday morning car crash on Highway 140 took the lives of an Eagle Point woman and a Hermiston man.

Oregon State Police reported Eagle Point resident Marri Young-Wellbaum, 26, and Garrett Zimmer, 22, of Hermiston, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after being ejected from a red Ford Ranger pickup. A third occupant, Klamath Falls resident Gauge Gray, 22, was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

OSP said the rollover crash happened at 7:40 a.m. on Highway 140 near milepost 3. OSP said the truck was traveling westbound, then left the north side of the roadway before slamming into a lamppost and highway sign. It then rolled several times and came to rest in a pasture.

OSP, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Klamath County Fire District No. 1 and the Klamath County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

No one in the vehicle was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash. OSP said speed, alcohol and icy road conditions are being looked at as factors in the crash. More information on the crash's cause will be released soon, police said.
