Man on parole for robbery arrested after crashing stolen truck
A man on parole for robbery is back in jail after he slammed a stolen truck into a light pole in Medford Thursday evening, then fled the scene, police said.
Larry Allen McMurtie, 43, remains in the Jackson County Jail today on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and hit and run. The crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the corner of McAndrews Road and Summit Avenue.
McMurtie allegedly smashed into the light pole and knocked it to the ground before driving away. Soon after, a detective spotted a truck with a smashed in front end at the Bear Creek Shopping Center.
Police said McMurtie took the truck without permission from his grandmother, who lives in Jacksonville. The date of the theft was not available, police said.
