Medford man allegedly tried to lure second child into pornography

A Medford man held on child pornography and drug charges faces new accusations he tried to lure a second child into pornography.

Ernest Luther Taylor, 38, of the 500 block of West 11th Street in Medford, was indicted this month on a charge of attempting to use a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, allegedly for a visual recording in June 2014.

The child is the second potential victim to come to light after police arrested Taylor in February 2014 for allegedly running a large-scale psychedelic mushroom growing operation and processing marijuana at a storage site north of Central Point.

After a Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force investigation triggered by the drug case, Taylor was indicted in August 2014 on 20 charges related to a first alleged victim, a girl under age 12. The charges included multiple counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.

Taylor allegedly sexually abused the first victim from December 2012 until July 2013, according to an indictment listing the 20 charges.

This month, another charge of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct involving the first alleged victim was added against Taylor. That charge alleges he induced the first victim to engage in sexually explicit conduct for a visual recording in June 2014, the same month he is accused of trying to induce the second victim into taking part in child pornography.

In June 2014, Taylor was out of jail on bail because he faced only drug charges at that time from his February 2014 drug arrest. He was arrested on the first batch of sex abuse charges in August 2014.

He is currently lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $2 million bail.

A trial on the first 20 counts of alleged sexual abuse is set for April 28. Taylor is also set to go to trial that day on four drug charges — delivery of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and manufacture, delivery and possession of psychedelic mushrooms.

A trial date is not yet set on the two new sex abuse charges added this month.
