Myrtle Creek man was murdered, police say
A man found dead at his rural Douglas County home Thursday had been murdered, and the property owner was arrested, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, Feb. 5, at about 4 p.m., Robert Davis of Sutherlin called police to report he had found his adult son, Justin Davis, 29, deceased at a residence in the 2800 Block of Dole Road, Myrtle Creek. The residence is located in a rural area just north of Myrtle Creek.
A few hours after they were called, police arrested the owner of the property where Justin Davis was found, Steven Merry, 68. Merry was lodged at the Douglas County Jail for murder.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team, composed of investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department, Oregon State Police and Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, are leading the investigation.
Police said in a news release issued this morning that more information will be released when it is available.
