Tuesday car crash kills Cave Junction woman

A Cave Junction woman died Tuesday afternoon after being tossed from her car in a rollover crash on Highway 199 near Wilderville.

Oregon State Police reported 63-year-old Jacqueline Ihara-Stafford was found dead at the scene by responding crews. Another Cave Junction woman Carolyn Tillett, 61, who was a passenger in Ihara-Stafford's car, was taken to a local hospital with injuries considered "non-life threatening," according to an OSP news release.

The crash was reported at 2:40 p.m. at milepost 13 on the highway. A preliminary investigation shows Ihara-Stafford was driving a 2000 Mazda sedan west on Highway 199 when the car drifted off the road and rolled over. Ihara-Stafford was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected.

OSP, American Medical Response, Illinois Valley Fire & Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the scene. The highway was closed intermittently for several hours during the initial investigation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
