Sex offender filmed females at Old Navy
A registered sex offender pleaded guilty to multiple counts of invasion of personal privacy after filming women and girls inside Old Navy dressing rooms in Medford.
David Neal Reynolds, 55, of the 300 block of South Holly Street in Medford, was sentenced to 90 days in jail Friday after pleading guilty to six counts of invasion of personal privacy.
Reynolds took his cellphone camera into Old Navy dressing rooms in September, put it below the dressing room partitions and made visual recordings of females, according to testimony in Jackson County Circuit Court.
In September, an 18-year-old girl saw a hand holding a cellphone reach under a partition to her dressing room. She tried to grab the phone, then came out to confront the man holding the phone. He fled, but the store had surveillance footage showing him, police said at the time of his arrest.
Investigators recognized him as a registered sex offender who was arrested in 2014 on charges of third-degree sexual abuse, harassment and failure to register as a sex offender after rubbing against women shoppers. In that incident, he pressed against a woman who bent down to look at merchandise at Target. She worked in law enforcement and confronted him and reported the incident, leading to his arrest.
In 2014, police reported that after interviewing Reynolds they concluded he had bumped or rubbed against dozens of women in grocery and department stores for sexual gratification over the course of years. He was later convicted of third-degree sexual abuse.
Reynolds was working for a towing company at the time that he was arrested for the Old Navy incidents. He has lost his apartment and likely will lose his job, his defense attorney said.
In addition to serving jail time, Reynolds will be on probation for five years and must undergo a sex offender treatment program.
"This is very, very inappropriate behavior, sir. You can't do this to anybody," Jackson County Circuit Judge Lorenzo Mejia told Reynolds. "You've got to get some help."
Reynolds dabbed tears but declined to make a statement during his plea and sentencing hearing, other than to admit he had filmed females multiple times at Old Navy.
In 2010, Reynolds was also convicted of third-degree sexual abuse for touching the intimate parts of women without their consent.
In 2013, Reynolds was convicted of second-degree theft after taking a purse from the shopping cart of a woman who was shopping in the baby formula section of Walmart in Eagle Point. The purse contained cash and Social Security cards for the woman and her daughter, the woman told police.
Reynolds has been lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail since Sept. 29, jail records show.
