Robbery reported at Subway on Crater Lake Avenue

A man robbed a Subway at gunpoint this afternoon in east Medford.

The robbery occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at 1250 Crater Lake Ave., according to Medford police.

Wearing a dark bandana over his face, the man walked into the Subway, which had no customers and only one female employee on duty at the time, showed a silver handgun and demanded cash from the employee.

"He got away with a relatively small amount of money," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said.

Police said the man's demeanor was calm during the robbery.

"Almost nonchalant about the whole thing," Budreau said. "Wasn't yelling and screaming or anything like that."

The man was last seen running north on Crater Lake Avenue. Numerous police and a police dog responded, canvassing nearby neighborhoods in their attempts to track him.

The robber was described as white, average height and in his late 20s or early 30s, with medium build and light-colored, short hair. He wore a dark blue jacket with hood, faded blue jeans, brown shoes and black gloves, police said.

"This appears to be unique in that we don't have any other unsolved robberies that fit this suspect description," Budreau said. "And it is rather odd to have a robbery in the middle of a busy afternoon on a Monday, so this is an odd one, and we're actively looking for him."

Investigators ask anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area or has information about the crime to call Detective Tony Young at 541-774-2230.
