Alleged 'higher level' drug dealer arrested in Talent
TALENT — A four-month investigation into a suspected Talent drug dealer was capped Wednesday with the man's arrest.
The Medford Area Drug & Gang Enforcement Team arrested 29-year-old Jesus "Jesse" Macias at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Talent Avenue — directly across the street from the Talent Police Department — at 10 a.m. Wednesday, agency officials said.
The arrest came after detectives served a search warrant at the location, where they allegedly found drugs and hundreds of dollars in cash. Detectives declined to disclose specifics about the investigation, but said a lot of work went into it.
"It was a very active investigation the entire time," said Lt. Mike Budreau of MADGE.
Detectives opened the case after receiving intelligence about multiple drug sales at a particular apartment to buyers from around Jackson County.
"He was supplying drugs to a lot of people in the valley," Budreau said.
During MADGE's search of the apartment, detectives reportedly found 83 grams of methamphetamine, which Budreau said is enough of the drug to fill a sandwich baggie.
"This would be a significant amount of drugs we were able to seize, which would indicate to us he was a higher-level dealer," Budreau said.
Police also found 32 grams of heroin, more than $700 in cash, scales, packaging and other evidence.
Macias was lodged in the Jackson County Jail with no bail on charges of unlawful possession, manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and unlawful possession, manufacture and distribution of heroin.
He was also arrested on a warrant for a parole violation. Macias has additional felony convictions for methamphetamine possession, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and delivery of cocaine, according to court records.
