Medford man killed in rollover crash
A Medford man was killed in a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon near Gold Hill.
Alex Duane Miller, 69, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Dodge van rolled over at Fourth Avenue near Beeman Street at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
A dog inside the van was uninjured in the crash.
Miller struck a sign, went up an embankment and rolled over on Fourth Avenue, also known as Highway 234. Several witnesses, including two nurses, attempted to help Miller, who was found unconscious in his vehicle. Jackson County Fire District 3 crews extricated Miller from the van, according to the sheriff's department.
The crash closed Highway 234 for roughly two hours while sheriff's deputies investigated. It is not yet known whether Miller suffered a medical event prior to the crash or whether he died of crash injuries, and results of a routine toxicology test are pending. Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor.
