Brush pile burning in Prescott Park starts today
Medford Fire-Rescue will conduct controlled burns in the Prescott Park area on Roxy Ann Peak today.
Fire Chief Brian Fish said the brush pile burning is expected to start this morning. Operations will take place throughout the day, with smoke clearly visible from most areas of the Rogue Valley. The burning will happen at the challenge course in the upper portion of the park. Medford Parks & Recreation officials also will be on site.
No closures are expected on hiking or biking trails, according to a Medford Fire news release, but anyone recreating in the area should expect to see some smoke and fire department vehicles.
Fire officials said the burning operations are an annual effort to decrease fuel loads in the 1,740-acre park area, reducing the risk of wildfires.
