Motorcyclist killed after being hit on Old Stage Road
A 23-year-old man died Thursday night after his motorcycle was hit by a pickup truck on Old Stage Road near Galls Creek Road just outside Gold Hill.
Jackson County Sheriff's Capt. Nathan Sickler said the accident victim, whose name was not released because relatives had not been notified, had stopped before he was hit, possibly because of a mechanical issue.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears he was struck from behind and that the bike wasn't moving," Sickler said.
The accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. The motorcyclist was hit by a Dodge pickup, and the road was not well-lit, Sickler said.
It isn't known whether the pickup driver was injured. Police have not released the name of the Dodge driver, and no arrests have been made.
The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team responded to the crash, along with the Rogue River Fire Department. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
All information about the case has been forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review, Sickler said.
