Six kilos of cocaine found during I-5 traffic stop
A Washington man is in jail after Oregon State Police troopers reportedly found about six kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle early Friday.
An OSP trooper stopped Juan Yonic Perez-Palafox, 30, for an unspecified traffic violation, on Interstate 5 near milepost 33, according to a news release. He was the only occupant in the vehicle, a 2007 Mercury SUV.
The trooper said he suspected "criminal activity," and Perez-Palafox allegedly consented to a search. The trooper found the cocaine in the vehicle's back seat. Whether it was concealed or in plain sight was not immediately available.
Police arrested Perez-Palafox and lodged him in the Jackson County Jail. He is held on charges of possession, delivery and manufacture of cocaine, with bail set at $27,500, according to jail records.
