Medford man allegedly impersonated police officer
A Medford man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly tried to help a friend embroiled in a property dispute by pretending to be a Washington state police trooper.
Quade W. Norush, 22, of the 2800 block of State Street, entered not guilty pleas Tuesday to charges of criminal impersonation of a peace officer and criminal impersonation of a peace officer, judge or justice of the peace. He has a pre-trial conference scheduled for July 10 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
On the evening of May 1, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of people standing in a roadway and yelling at each other on East Gregory Road in Central Point. The people were arguing over property stored at the location, according to an affidavit filed by the sheriff's office.
Norush reportedly came to the location to help his friend retrieve the disputed property.
"Norush was prominently displaying a gold badge, handgun and handcuffs on his belt," the affidavit said.
Witnesses said he identified himself as a Washington state police officer assigned to a federal task force. Norush allegedly said he was there to facilitate a civil standby, the affidavit said.
During a civil standby, a law enforcement officer is present while a person retrieves property.
A call to Washington State Patrol revealed Norush had no authority as a police officer in either Washington or Oregon, the affidavit said.
Norush later said he used to be a bail bondsman in Washington and he claimed to be certified as a security guard in Oregon. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was unable to immediately confirm those claims, the affidavit said.
He was arrested for impersonating an officer, and a second badge was located hanging around his neck, the affidavit said.
Norush was released from the Jackson County Jail after posting a $750 security deposit on $7,500 bail May 2.
In addition to allegedly impersonating a police officer, Norush apparently has aspirations to become a model, according to a profile he posted on exploretalent.com.
His profile states he wants to be a model because he has been told by a lot of people that he is handsome and would be good at it.
