Suspects in bank robbery considered armed, dangerous

New details have emerged about a bank robbery Monday in Grants Pass, and a chase hours later. Two suspects remain at large and are considered by police to be potentially armed and dangerous.

Grants Pass police identified the suspects as brothers Cedar Yandell, 33, and Jade Yandell, 27, both of Cave Junction.

They are accused of robbing the Williams Highway branch of Banner Bank. The robbery occurred just before 5 p.m. Monday.

In a news release, the Department of Public Safety said a man wearing a mask robbed the bank just before closing with what appeared to be a gun. The robber then fled into a waiting getaway vehicle, described by police as a white Dodge pickup with a black hood.

At 1:12 a.m. Tuesday, approximately eight hours later, a patrol officer spotted a pickup truck matching the description of the getaway car. The officer attempted to pull the truck over, but it raced off.

Troopers with Oregon State Police joined in on the ensuing chase down Redwood Highway. Speeds averaged about 60-70 mph, according to the OSP incident report.

In the Wilderville/Wonder area south of Grants Pass, the truck turned down Waters Creek Road before losing control at a dirt road following a ramming maneuver by a trooper. The driver fled on foot and was not located.

OSP reported there were two other passengers in the truck, which was impounded. They were not named in the city's news release or the OSP report.

Police said one of the suspects, Cedar Yandell, was seen walking on Water Creek Road about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday but fled from a state trooper into the brush. Law enforcement searched the area for several hours Tuesday, but he was not located.

Both Cedar Yandell and Jade Yandell remain at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said. The nature of Jade Yandell's alleged involvement in the robbery was unclear from the news release.

The Yandells frequent the Wilderville and Cave Junction areas, police said.

Anyone with information on the robbery or the location of the suspects should call Detective Ryan Brown of Grants Pass Public Safety at 541-450-6260.
