Deputies seek male suspect in arson fires
Jackson County Sheriff's Office seeks a man caught on surveillance video following series of arson fires at a White City mobile home community.
The sheriff's office reported three fires, including two Saturday night, causing thousands of dollars in property damage and endangering neighborhood residents. Patrols have been beefed up, and detectives are tracking down leads.
Sgt. Julie Denney said she wasn't sure what materials the arsonist used to ignite the flames.
Deputies say a pickup parked outside a mobile home was set on fire about 10:30 p.m., Thursday, and reported by residents at 3777 Falcon St. A neighbor quelled the flames with a fire extinguisher. Jackson County Fire Dist. No. 3 responded to the incident.
A second fire was reported just before 10 a.m. in a pickup bed in the same mobile home park.
Fire Dist. No. 3 put the flames out before the engulfed the vehicle or spread.
While surveying deputies discovered evidence of a fire in an outbuilding adjacent to another mobile home within several feet of other occupied homes.
Surveillance video images show a male teen or young adult, about 6-foot tall, wearing a light-colored hooded shirt, light colored pants, and athletic shoes.
Deputies encouraged residents to be vigilant and to call dispatch (541-776-7206) to report suspicious activity in the area.
