UPDATED: Missing Gold Hill man found

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department found a missing Gold Hill man, Forrest "Craig" West, Tuesday morning, alive and unhurt.

"A deputy searching Gold Hill this morning located West walking down the street wrapped in a blanket," a sheriff's department Facebook post said. "He was cold and thirsty, but otherwise OK. The deputy took him home to family."

The sheriff's department had been searching for West since he was reported missing Monday morning.

West, 70, reportedly walked away from his Second Avenue home at about 9 a.m., leaving his shoes, wallet, money and identification behind.

"He left a note saying he was leaving, but didn’t know where he was going," said sheriff's department Sgt. Julie Denney.

Family and community members aided in the search, which included parks and other public areas, and along the Rogue River.

"Pretty much all over the Gold Hill area in general," Denney said.
