Suspect identified in RCC bomb threat

Local report

Medford police have told Rogue Community College that a suspect has been identified in a Wednesday bomb threat that closed the RCC campus until noon the following day.

The suspect was not identified in an RCC news release sent out Friday, and police could not immediately be reached for comment on whether anyone had been arrested. The suspect was employed "by an agency that contracts with RCC," the release said, though details were not immediately available.

The bomb threat was found written on a campus whiteboard late Wednesday afternoon, according to Medford police. It indicated a bomb would go off Thursday morning.

Police did not find any suspicious devices during an initial sweep of the Medford campus.

RCC students resumed class the next day. Some were upset by the disruption, according to RCC spokesman Grant Walker.

"They were just glad to be able to get in and get back to class," Walker said.

The incident was the second such threat to happen during the calendar year, following a written note that threatened violence against the college found June 15.
