Men accused of raping, videoing woman

(Editor's note: All charges against Savage and Ellis have been dismissed)

Two men are being held in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail each after one allegedly raped an incapacitated woman and the other allegedly touched her sexually and made a video recording while she was nude.

James Leeland Savage, 29, of Crescent City has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sodomy and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to an indictment.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court.

The indictment alleges Savage engaged in sexual intercourse with a woman who was incapable of consent due to physical helplessness July 16. He also allegedly touched her sexually and engaged in deviate sexual intercourse while she was physically helpless.

Co-defendant Jesse Craig Ellis, 38, is listed as being from the Medford area but without an address.

He has been charged with conspiring with Savage to commit the crime of first-degree rape. Ellis is also charged with first-degree sexual penetration and first-degree sexual abuse for alleged sexual touching, according to an indictment.

He faces an additional count of invasion of personal property for allegedly making a visual recording of the woman while she was in a state of nudity and in a place where she had a reasonable expectation of privacy, plus a charge of methamphetamine possession, according to the indictment.

Ellis has a pre-trial conference hearing scheduled on Oct. 16 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
