One dead in Talent mobile home fire
TALENT — A 38-year-old woman died of injuries sustained in a fire at a Talent mobile home park Sunday night, according to Talent police.
Marcella Bailey died at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center after being transported, according to a news release from Talent police.
The fire was reported at 10:14 p.m., according to dispatch records. Five engines from Jackson County Fire District No. 5, Ashland Fire & Rescue and Medford Fire-Rescue responded to the fire, at space 25 of the Totem Pole mobile home park, 812 S. Pacific Highway.
Units from Talent police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department also responded.
"First-arriving companies found a single-wide manufactured home with a significant volume of fire issuing from the structure," a news release from Fire District 5 said. "Several residents had evacuated the building ahead of the fire."
When crews learned Bailey was trapped inside, they set to work cutting a wall open with power saws to free her, the District 5 news release said. Paramedics attempted to offer aid then transported her to Asante. Another person was transported for a laceration received while trying to assist the trailer's residents.
The blaze caused $50,000 worth of damage to the structure and $25,000 worth of damage to contents.
Three other people living in the home, two children and an adult male, made it out without injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
