Controlled burns to continue in Prescott Park today
Controlled burns will continue from about 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak, meaning smoke and some fire will likely be visible from many parts of the Rogue Valley floor throughout the day.
The burns are intended to reduce flammable material throughout the city of Medford park.
Crews will be working near the top of the park just below the radio tower facility, according to a news release from Medford Fire-Rescue. They will burn excess brush, tree limbs, and forest debris that Jackson County Corrections crews had cleared and placed in piles over the fall and winter months.
“Due to the location of the burning operations high on Roxy Ann Peak, smoke and some fire may be visible from many parts of the valley floor,” the release said.
The park will remain open, with “minimal” impacts to the public from smoke. Park users are asked to stay alert for fire department crews and equipment working in the area.
