Woman wanted in alleged hit-and-run
A woman who allegedly collided with a bicyclist and left the scene has a warrant out for her arrest after she failed to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court Thursday.
Rachel Nicole Graham-Stewart, 26, of the 500 block of Holly Street in Medford was scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person. She didn’t show up and the warrant was issued for her arrest, court records show.
Graham-Stewart has a long history of failing to appear in court in other cases.
In the latest case, a 53-year-old bicyclist said he had been biking east on Dakota Avenue in Medford when a driver pulled out from a side street without stopping or seeing him. The bicyclist said he was unable to stop in time and hit the vehicle, according to a probable cause affidavit by a Medford police officer who responded to the June 2 incident.
The cyclist had visible injuries to his leg, arm and shoulder, the affidavit said.
The officer spoke to a witness who said he had been walking on Dakota Avenue and saw the collision. The witness said the driver stopped briefly and asked the cyclist if he was OK. When the bicyclist said he was calling 911, the driver told him not to, then got back in her vehicle and drove away, the affidavit said.
The witness described the car as a Dodge Neon and provided a license plate number. He said the woman was wearing a red summer dress with flowers, had blonde hair and appeared to be in her late 20s, weigh about 100 pounds and stand about 5 feet tall, the affidavit said.
The police officer went to the address of the vehicle’s registered owner and made contact with Graham-Stewart there. She matched the witness description but said she had changed her clothes because they got wet, the affidavit said.
Graham-Stewart told the officer she left the scene because she doesn’t have a driver’s license. She said she had not seen the bicyclist until she was in the intersection, where she stopped. She estimated she had been traveling about 5 mph, the affidavit said.
In her latest mug shot, Graham-Stewart has dyed red hair. She had light brown hair in past mugshots.
She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, according to court records.
Graham-Stewart pleaded guilty in July to first-degree criminal trespassing, heroin possession and second-degree theft of Fred Meyer merchandise. The charges were from two separate cases that dated back to 2016. She had a lengthy history of failing to appear in court to resolve those cases, according to court records.
She was sentenced to probation and 10 days in jail, court records show.
Graham-Stewart is also known as Rachael Graham, Rachel Nicole Graham and Rachael Nicole Graham-Stewart, according to court records.
