2 people and 1 dog survive White City plane crash

SAMS VALLEY — One person was hospitalized, while a pilot and pet walked away following a Tuesday evening plane crash in the Sams Valley area.

A 1976 Cessna T210L carrying two people crashed at 7:23 p.m. Tuesday in the 4900 block of Dodge Road outside White City, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The small aircraft was reportedly downed while approaching Beagle Sky Ranch Airport.

A resident who witnessed the plane crash-landing in their yard made the 911 call, according to police.

One passenger was rushed by Mercy Flights helicopter to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, while the pilot was taken to the hospital by private vehicle, the release said. The dog riding in the Cessna was uninjured.

The plane is registered to Donald McKay of White City, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.

Why the plane crashed is under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
