Body of missing Rogue River swimmer found
The body of a 44-year-old man who disappeared Thursday while swimming in the Rogue River was found Friday by Josephine County Search and Rescue members and other emergency responders.
The body of Jason Briggs was found about 500 yards from where he went under the water while swimming across the Rogue River about a quarter of a mile south of Galice Resort, police said.
Friends had reported in a 911 call at 6:24 p.m. Thursday that Briggs couldn’t be found.
Staff from Galice Resort launched a raft and began to search for Briggs along the river until the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Rural Metro Fire Department personnel arrived. They searched the riverbank and the water with the sheriff’s office marine craft.
They called off the search at 9 p.m. Thursday, and resumed Friday morning with help from the search-and-rescue team.
This case will be turned over to Deputy State Medical Examiner Dr. James Olson, a news release said.
