One dead, another injured after fall from cliff
TOKATEE — A Grants Pass man died and a Grants Pass woman suffered serious injuries when they apparently fell 70 feet off a rock cliff late Saturday near Umpqua Hot Springs near Tokatee, about 60 miles east of Roseburg, authorities said.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the dead man as 24-year-old Christian Simmons and the injured woman as 20-year-old Azrael Maujean.
Initial reports indicate the pair were at Umpqua Hot Springs Saturday night and became lost in the 2000 block of Thorn Prairie Road and fell off a cliff, deputies said.
Maujean was found Sunday by people in the area and they notified police at 1:30 p.m., authorities said.
Neither had equipment for wilderness night travel, police said.
Maujean was taken by ambulance to Roseburg’s Mercy Medical Center, which did not offer any information about her condition.
