Suspects in custody after Medford police chase
Update, Oct. 17: Our follow-up story has more information about the robbery investigation that prompted the Medford police chase.
At least three people are in Medford police custody and at least one car has been seized following a police chase that ended in the area of multiple apartment complexes and shopping centers.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Medford police attempted to stop two vehicles on North Riverside Avenue surrounding an as-yet undisclosed "criminal episode," according to Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. One of the two vehicles involved pulled over on Riverside, while a Mercedes-Benz sedan fled police.
Officers lost sight of the car near the area of Poplar Drive and Highway 62, according to Budreau, and police secured a perimeter in the area. Within half an hour, police found the three subjects they'd previously spotted inside the car on foot.
Police found the car that eluded police parked at a retirement home in the 2100 block of Poplar Drive, according to Budreau, and the car was seized as evidence.
As of just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, the three as-yet unidentified subjects in the Mercedes were still in Medford police custody being questioned by detectives. More information on the investigation is expected Thursday.
"This is going to be part of a bigger investigation that we'll be discussing later on," Budreau said.
