Cause of JoCo outhouse fire a mystery

Firefighters in rural Josephine County are flummoxed as to how an unoccupied outdoor toilet building burst into flames.

Fire broke at the outhouse just after 1 p.m. Thursday in the 3200 block of Takilma Road, according to a release issued by the Illinois Valley Fire District, burning the structure to the ground.

The fire marshal found that the unoccupied 5-foot by 8-foot outdoor toilet building had no signs of a heat source — electric or otherwise — and investigators have ruled the fire’s official cause as "undetermined."
