1 dead, 3 injured in Highway 62 crash

An Eagle Point man is dead and several other people were taken to the hospital following a crash at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday that closed Highway 62 for hours.

Rickie Beer, 70, died Tuesday afternoon and three others were hospitalized following a head-on crash involving a Volkswagen Beetle and a Chrysler PT Cruiser near the intersection of Crystal Drive, according to news releases from Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Jason Renfro, 35, of Medford, was driving the Chrysler westbound when for unknown reasons he crossed the center line and collided into the Volkswagen, driven by Beer.

Renfro and his passenger, Lawrence Hunsley, 59, of Prospect, were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries, as was Beer’s passenger Susan Beer, 67.

Rickie Beer died at the scene of the crash.

OSP was assisted by Jackson County Fire District 3, Eagle Point Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
