Death at country club ruled accidental
A Rogue Valley Country Club member who was found unresponsive along the golf path Sunday died accidentally, according to Medford police, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
Bernard Michael "Mike" O'Grady, 67, was found on the ground by a maintenance crew at 6:37 a.m. Sunday, according to police and earlier news reports.
Detectives and the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office determined that O'Grady fell down near the country club late Saturday evening and hit his head while walking to his home on Black Oak Road, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. Investigators believe cold temperatures contributed to his death.
"It was 39 degrees that night," Budreau said.
Country club surveillance footage showed O'Grady walking home. Investigators found signs of a head injury during an autopsy conducted Monday.
Investigators at the medical examiner's office started toxicology screenings Monday, police said, but the results are several weeks away.
"The toxicology would be the last piece of this puzzle," Budreau said.
O'Grady worked as a local real estate agent, according to his public Facebook page. A celebration of life is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the North Medford High School auditorium, 1900 N. Keene Way Drive.
