White City man charged with child porn

A White City man is accused of uploading images of children being sexually exploited to the cloud.

John Raymond Snyder, 29, faces 10 counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse after police said he stored child pornography on a Google account in a case that involved at least three search warrants and six months of investigation, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

JCSO Public Information Officer Mike Moran said the investigation into Snyder started Jan. 8, when the nonprofit National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted the sheriff’s office with a tip about 21 illicit files uploaded in Southern Oregon to a Google account tied to Snyder.

A detective at the sheriff’s office worked from the nonprofit’s tip to serve a search warrant on a local Internet provider, and the sheriff’s office served a search warrant June 10 at Snyder’s home in the 8300 block of Barbur Street.

Five days later, the sheriff’s office — with help from the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crime Task Force and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations — served a search warrant with Google for access to Snyder’s account.

“You have to get cooperation from a lot of different entities,” Moran said.

On the morning of July 15, sheriff’s deputies arrested Snyder on the child pornography warrant.

The Jackson County District Attorney’s office alleged that nine of the 10 incidents in which Snyder was charged occurred June 10, and a 10th charge stems from a July 8 incident, according to Jackson County Circuit Court records.

Snyder appeared in court Thursday, where Judge Lorenzo Mejia set bail at $75,000 and ordered that conditions for Snyder’s release include intensive check-ins, no contact with minors, compliance with polygraph testing, no contact or attempted contact with alleged victims and no accessing the internet.

On Friday, Snyder was no longer an inmate at the Jackson County Jail, records show.
